ANGOSTURA’S CSR ACTIVITIES
Our dedication to serving the needs of our internal and external communities continues to be a priority for Angostura. Approximately 15000 requests for donations, sponsorship and general assistance are received annually and we are able to facilitate the majority of these in one way or the other, either financially, through product distribution or the volunteerism of staff.
Some of the key projects that Angostura was able to achieve over the years were far reaching. The company continues its relationship with the Morvant /Laventille Agricultural Network, which it started a few years ago, assisting with their agricultural endeavours, which provide opportunities for several young men and women in the area, from learning farming skills, to selling their products.
The schools in the area have benefited from our generosity as we have sort to assist them with various activities throughout the years. We provide books, uniforms and shoes to students to enter school who would otherwise not have had a chance to go to school. We have also done a week long project with Anna Maria Mora, who spoke to teenagers about HIV AIDS – what it is, what causes it, how to prevent it, and on the negative effects of underage drinking; brochures on Alcohol and its effect were given to the students as a takeaway. It is important to instill discipline, education and endurance in the youth of today. This is also achieved through the kid’s camps and workshops that we run every year, in the Laventille/Morvant area. Working with the youth in this way could only open their minds to a host of alternatives.
Generally, our corporate social responsibility spans a wide range of areas, finding us assisting with organizations dealing with culture, education, sport, terminal diseases, environmental issues, other spiritual and humanitarian issues, while supporting fellow corporate citizens and other entities.
The Quality control department of the company, has also been very active, as they were able to achieve several developmental activities with staff; including first aid and CPR classes, advising of emergency criteria and instructions, education on the OSHA act and health and environmental safety training. Several recycling and environmental awareness initiatives are practiced at Angostura including recycling paper in all departments, as well as ways of conserving water and energy.
Going forward, Angostura will continue to develop its social responsibility activities with structured projects within the community in partnering with community leaders in their efforts to create a better environment for those in the area through educational, environmental, social, cultural and sporting activities.
