Angostura is excited to host its second annual Paws in the Savannah – A Dog Friendly Event, aimed at promoting animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and community engagement. This initiative aligns with our commitment to supporting animal welfare campaigns and fostering a culture of compassion and care for pets.
The event takes place on Sunday April 05 (Easter Sunday) from 2:00pm to 6:00pm at the Queen’s Park Savannah (opposite Queen’s Royal College). This family event will feature various activities for dog enthusiasts and owners, adoption drives, educational sessions and demonstrations, ensuring an enriching experience for families and their dogs.
Event Objectives
Through partnerships with local shelters, we are promoting pet adoptions, giving rescued animals a chance to find loving forever homes while supporting vital rescue efforts.
Paws in the Savannah is an opportunity for families to engage in a fun and enriching experience, strengthening the bond between humans and their furry companions.

The entrance would be located obliquely opposite Queen’s Royal College and Hayes Street.

Yes. Entrance to parking is on Queen’s Park West (right-hand corner after the U.S. Embassy)

Parking is available on the South-Western end of the Savannah (directly opposite Queen’s Royal College, next to Paws in the Savannah)
Is this event wheelchair accessible?
Yes. Paws in the Savannah is wheelchair accessible.
Can I bring my cat, bird, or other pets?
Only dogs are allowed at this event for safety reasons.
Are all breeds of dogs allowed?
Only well-behaved, socialised, non-aggressive dogs are welcome. Certain breed-specific regulations may apply as per the Dog Control Act Chapter 67:56. The following breeds will not be allowed into the event according to the Dog Control Act Chapter 67:56:
- American Pit Bull Terrier
- American Staffordshire Terrier
- American Bully
- Dogo Argentino
- Japanese Tosa
- Fila Brasileiro
Does my dog need to be on a leash?
Yes. All dogs must be on a non-retractable leash no longer than six (6) feet.
What type of restraint is allowed for my dog?
All dogs must wear a secure harness/collar with a leash during the event. Harnesses and leashes will be available for purchase for a total of $100.00 outside the venue
Do I need to bring proof of vaccinations?
Yes. All dogs must be up-to-date on vaccinations. You may be asked to show proof on entry. Please ensure your dog is flea and tick-free before attending.
Will there be pet-related vendors?
Yes. Expect a variety of vendors selling pet treats, toys, accessories and other items.
Can I adopt a dog at the event?
Yes. Local shelters and rescues will have adoptable dogs on-site.
Will there be food and treats available?
Yes. There will be food and non-alcoholic beverages on sale for families and their dogs.
Are there rest areas, water stations and relief areas for dogs?
Absolutely. Water stations, shaded rest and relief areas will be available throughout the venue.
What about restrooms for humans?
Executive portable restrooms will be available on-site.
What happens if a dog becomes aggressive?
Any dog displaying aggressive behaviour would be immediately removed from the event for the safety of others.
Do I need to clean up after my dog?
Yes. Please be a responsible owner and clean up after your dog.
Can I bring my puppy?
Puppies are welcome, as long as they are at least six (6) months old and fully vaccinated.
Good Dogs Follow the Rules
To ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees, the following rules apply:
Health and Safety:
- Vaccinations: All dogs must be up-to-date on their vaccinations. Proof of vaccination may be requested.
- Health Check: Animals exhibiting signs of illness, such as coughing, sneezing, or skin lesions, will not be permitted entry.
- Parasite Prevention: Animals must be free of fleas, ticks, and other parasites.
- Harnesses, Collars & Leashes: Dogs must be kept on a secure harness or collar with a leash (no longer than 6 feet) at all times. Retractable leashes are NOT ALLOWED. Dogs wearing collars only will NOT be allowed entry.
- Waste Management: Pet owners are responsible for immediately cleaning up after their animals.
- Temperament: Dogs must be well-socialised and have a calm temperament and those exhibiting aggressive or overly anxious behaviour may be asked to leave.
Conduct and Responsibility:
- Supervision: Persons must maintain constant supervision of their dogs and children. Do not leave your pet or child unattended.
- Respectful Interaction: Pet owners are responsible for ensuring their dogs do not disturb or harass other attendees or dogs.
- No Feeding: Feeding other people’s dogs is strictly prohibited without the owner’s explicit permission.
- No Petting: Ask pet owners for permission before petting or hugging their dogs.
- Liability: Pet owners are responsible for any damage or injury caused by their dogs.
- The following breeds will not be allowed into the event according to the Dog Control Act Chapter 67:56:

- Event Organiser Authority: Angostura reserves the right to refuse entry to any dog, if deemed necessary for the safety or well-being of attendees.
General Guidelines:
- Avoid Overcrowding: Be mindful of your dog’s comfort level in crowded areas.
- Emergency Contact: Ensure your dog’s identification tag is up-to-date.
- Noise Levels: Be mindful of your dog’s reaction to loud noises. Some dogs are very sensitive to loud noises. Please consider your dog’s personality before bringing them to Paws in the Savannah.
