As part of our sponsorship of the Desperadoes Youth Steel Orchestra, the youths from Laventille and East Port of Spain communities had the incredible opportunity to immerse themselves in a vibrant, 3-week camp hosted at the Desperadoes’ historic location on George St., Port of Spain.
The camp, held during the July/August vacation, allowed participants to explore everything from music theory to the fascinating history of the steelpan. They also got hands-on experience in steelpan manufacturing and ensemble music-making. The excitement didn’t stop there, as they embarked on educational field trips to iconic sites like the La Brea Pitch Lake, San Fernando Hill, and Café Mariposa, where they danced the cocoa. Visits to the National Steel Symphony Orchestra and Musical Instruments of Trinidad & Tobago Company Ltd. added even more depth to their learning journey.
We were happy to support this initiative that is shaping the next generation of musicians and preserving our rich cultural heritage!
